Biography

Meyrem Almaci (born 25 February 1976, in Sint-Niklaas) is a Turkish-Belgian (double nationality) Flemish, politician and leader of the ecological party Groen since 2015. On 10 June 2007, she was elected into the Belgian Chamber of Representatives for the first time. In 2010 and 2014 (with a record of personal votes), she was re-elected.  

Almaci has a master's degree in comparative cultural science from Ghent University. In 2000, she founded the Agalev section Sint-Gillis-Waas and she became councillor in the same year. She has worked as a scientific worker in research projects at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven as from 2002 about study choices and the study success of immigrants in higher studies.
