Studied International Law, International Organisations and International Relations at Leyden University. Was the Youth Representative in the Netherlands’ delegation to the UN General Assembly in 1976, and worked for the Netherlands Platform for International Youth work, amongst others in the UN-related Geneva Informal Meeting of Youth NGO’s. Was boardmember and for two years International Secretary of one of the founding parties of GroenLinks, and in that capacity involved in the very early stages of European Green cooperation. Was co-founder and board-member of the Netherlands United Nations Association. And worked as International Relations Officer for Utrecht University Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance. Michiel is now active for GroenLinks at the local and provincial level, as well as in the Workinggroup on International Affairs and in the EGP-delegation.
