Suzanne Kröger

Suzanne Kröger (born 1976) is a Dutch politician and activist from Amsterdam.

In the 2017 elections, she won a seat in the House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer) for GroenLinks. Before that, she worked from 2006 til 2016 for Greenpeace as campaigner, project leader and programme director on topics such as deforestation and climate change.

Suzanne also worked in India, on a reconstruction programme in Kashmir after the earthquake.

Education

Kröger was born in Amsterdam. She studied political science at the university of Amsterdam and specialised in environmental philosophie and social movements; she was also active in student’s politics. She lived in Costa Rica, Armenia, India and for may years in Indonesia, where she worked in environmental and social projects. At Greenpeace, she worked on sustainability of international trade and the protection of biodiversity and the climate.

Election Campaign 2017

When she announced her candidature for the Tweede Kamer in November 2016, Suzanne Kröger stepped down from all her Greenpeace activities to maintain the organisation’s independence.

Initially, she was on place 9 of the candidate list, but had to move to place 11 after other candidates (Liesbeth van Tongeren and former group chairman Bram van Ojik) surprisingly joined the list. During her campaign, Suzanne Kröger went from door to door, looking for common grounds with citizens. According to Kröger, the people realised that with people like Trump and Wilders, something is really at stake. Hence the GroenLinks programme promised the change people were looking for.

At the elections on 15 March 2017, GroenLinks won 14 seats (up from 4), so Kröger started recently in the House of Representatives. She won 8.086 preferential votes.
