Biography

Sylvio Michel is the leader of the Verts Fraternels set up in Mauritius since 1989 from the Organisation Fraternelle founded in 1968. He has served as a member of Parliament from 1976 to 1981. Re-elected in 1982, he was appointed Minister of Youth and Sports from 1983, he resigned in 1984 due to non respect of electoral agreements. As a member of Parliament in 2000, he became Minister of Fisheries until his resignation for a similar reason in 2004. Sylvio Michel has fought a number of achievements among others, damages to the displaced Chagossians and the setting up of a Truth and Justice Commission on slavery and indentured labour.
