Marta Loja Neves studied Political Science and Humanitarian Action in Belgium. In 1999, she was part of the East-Timorese delegation to the former United Nations Human Rights Commission (Geneva). She worked as a parliamentary assistant in the European Parliament for 9 years, focusing on human rights, civil liberties and refugee resettlement. After 15 years abroad, she returned to Portugal in October 2014, where she now lives. She is also a member of the Editorial Board of the Green European Journal.
