About Congress

The Global Greens and European Green Party normally hold their own congresses only once every five years; however the Greens 2017 congress will be the first time that they are holding their congresses jointly; and also the first time that the GG Congress is held in Europe! Adding to this historic moment, the Green Party of England and Wales will also be holding their Spring Conference as an integrated part of this congress.

What is congress?

Congress is an important moment for members of the Global Greens family to make decisions on the goals of our work together and to mobilise our actions to address the challenges and the opportuntiies emerging across our globe!

For the Global Greens (GG), congress operates as an enhanced General Assembly, is the highest GG decision-making body and may adopt Resolutions on any political, policy, administrative or other matter which it considers relevant.

For the European Green Party (EGP), congress is an enlarged meeting of the Council, which is the highest EGP decision-making body, and may adopt a common political agenda, annual Activities plan, common campaigns and changes to the Green Charter, the Statutes and the Rule Book.

Congress is the rare occasion in which Green parties, foundations and civil society movements meet one another face-to-face as a global community - and it is a profoundly inspiring experience.

Together we learn about the lived experience of Green politics through perspectives around the world.  We gain a direct experience of our place on earth, through our relationship with one another.  Congress is a time to reflect, connect and recharge yourself with renewed inspiration!
